Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
