In a move that pairs generosity with a firm ultimatum, the United States has pledged $2 billion to support UN humanitarian programmes. But, this aid was accompanied by a blunt warning for the international body: it must "adapt or die."

A Major Announcement Amid Broader Funding Cuts

The funding announcement was declared amid significant reductions in American funding for humanitarian operations. The official, President Trump's Under Secretary for Foreign Assistance, delivered the statement together with the UN's emergency relief chief.

"These funds will be crucial for saving millions of lives," said the UN's humanitarian chief. Yet, this amount represents just a small portion of the United States' historical contributions, which were estimated at around $17 billion just a few years ago.
